With over a decade of experience, I am a classically trained pianist and choir
singer, as well as the former
choir conductor for AiYue Chorus at BUPT. My
musical journey also includes performing as a jazz and R&B vocalist with the
NUS JazzBand (NJB).
My musical journey began at the tender age of four when I started learning classical piano, a passion that I
pursued until I was 15. I was fortunate to study under the guidance of Mrs. Lü Zhen (吕真), an Associate
Professor of Piano at the School of Music, South China Normal University, and a Visiting Professor at the
Central Conservatory of Music. Her mentorship
helped
me build a
solid foundation
in classical music.
After my classical training, I ventured into the world of popular music by
teaching myself pop piano
arrangements. This exploration opened my eyes to the vast possibilities within music. In 2018, I expanded
my
repertoire by studying Chinese folk singing
with Mrs.
Zhang Xiuli (张秀丽), a graduate of the China
Conservatory of Music.
During my undergraduate studies at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), I joined the
AiYue Chorus as a conductor. I had the
privilege of
being guided by
Mrs. Ma Menghe (马梦鹤)
,
Mr. Li Hong (李闳)
, and
Mr. Li Houpu (李厚朴)
.
At the same time, I sang as a bass in the
Beijing Queer Chorus (BQC), which enriched my
vocal
experience.
In recent years, my musical interests have gravitated towards R&B, Soul, and Jazz. This passion led me to
join the NUS Jazz Band (NJB) as a vocalist, where I continually explore and
perform
these
genres. Additionally,
I perform some of my favorite pieces at our lab's (SMC) annual concert, sharing my love for music with a
broader audience. Music has always been my way of communicating and expressing emotions. I relish the
freedom of singing and the joy it brings to both myself and my listeners.
